PSG Edges Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
